How to order your barcodes in Hong Kong

1. Get your barcode numbers

Obtain your barcode number from a GS1 member organisation. In Hong Kong, this is GS1 Hong Kong, located in Wan Chai. You can register at www.gs1hk.org.

2. Barcodes for Books and Magazines

If you are barcoding books or magazines, you do not go to GS1.

• For Books (ISBN): Contact the Books Registration Office of the Hong Kong Public Libraries (Leisure and Cultural Services Department). They are the local agency responsible for issuing ISBNs in Hong Kong.

• For Serials/Magazines (ISSN): Publishers in Hong Kong should contact the ISSN International Centre or consult the Hong Kong Public Libraries for guidance on serial registration.

3. Determine Print Resolution

Find out from your printer at which resolution your barcodes will be printed; in other words, how many dots per inch (dpi) will be used for the printing process that includes the barcode. This ensures the barcode is scannable and crisp.

4. Order your barcode images
